Obituary for Johnny Actkinson
Church service for Johnny Actkinson, age 69, of Farwell, Texas, is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Farwell with Rev. Joe Whitley of Farwell and Rev. Elizabeth Harrington of Monahans, Texas officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell. Johnny died Monday, December 12, 2016 in Clovis, New Mexico. He was born May 22, 1947 in Amherst, Texas to John Theo and Dora Lee (Stanford) Actkinson. He married Diane Bryant in Muleshoe, Texas on May 17, 1970.
Johnny lived in the Farwell community all of his life. He received his undergraduate accounting degree from Texas Tech University in 1970. Johnny also played baseball for the University and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He then went on to the Texas Tech School of Law and graduated in 1973 before moving to Farwell and joining the Aldridge Law Firm. He started out as the Parmer County Attorney, and then became the Parmer County and Bailey County District Attorney for 28 years, retiring in 2008. Johnny enjoyed the practice of law in a small town until the day he died, and loved taking the fight to big city lawyers. He treasured his time watching his grandkids play sports and spending time with them and their families. Johnny was a member of the Texico-Farwell Rotary Club and the Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was the Finance Chair for many years. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include, his wife, Diane; his two sons, Jeff Actkinson and his wife, Robbi of Farwell, Texas and Greg Actkinson and his wife, Alyson of Farwell, Texas; his two daughters, Jill Anderson and her husband, Lance of Austin, Texas and Lacey Killough and her husband, Jay of Lubbock, Texas; his brother, Bobby Actkinson of Runaway Bay, Texas; and ten grandchildren, Leefe and Alec Actkinson, Landry, Ainsley and Piper Actkinson, John Brock, Ellis and Fisher Anderson, and Graham and Elise Killough.
