He continued there until 1968 when he went to work for Stanley Wilson at Wilson Drilling, where he worked for the rest of his life. Dee is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John H. Puckett of Muleshoe,Texas.

Dee is survived by his wife, Pattie; three children, Angie Madrid and her husband, Arthur of Amarillo, Texas, Daniel William “Dusty” Puckett and his wife, Cheryl of Odessa, Texas and Tracy Puckett and his wife, Patrice of Trinity, Texas; three grandchildren, Peter, Anna, and Ian; one brother, Eddie and his wife, Ira Lea Puckett of Sweetwater, Texas; four sisters, Mary Janice Brantley of Slaton, Texas, Wilma and her husband, Don Nicewarmer of Amarillo, Texas, Catherine “Chat” and her husband, Bob Mobley of Surprise, Arizona and Joyce and her husband, Ronald Scott of Muleshoe, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
