Esther Ybarra died on April 27, 2017, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on April 1, 1922 in Lockhart, Texas, to Leon and Clara Velasquez. She married Jesus “Jesse” Ybarra in Lubbock, Texas on September 27, 1947. Esther moved from Lubbock to Muleshoe in 1959. Esther was a housewife with a passion for the outdoors, gardening, music and dancing. Esther loved her siblings, children, grandchildren / great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and church family. Esther was a faithful woman and always encouraged those around her to serve the Lord. As an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lubbock, Texas, she belonged to the Catholic Youth Organization (C.Y.O.), Hijas de Maria and the Guadalupanas. After arriving in Muleshoe, Texas, Esther was instrumental in the organization of the Guadalupanas. She evangelized by being a part of several church and diocesan activities; i.e.: Diocesan Deanery, the Altar Society, Cursillo Movement, Guadalupanas, CCE teacher and the church choir.
Esther Ybarra was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Ybarra, her parents; two sisters, Anita Hernandez and Juanita Rodriguez and two brothers Antonio and Alfredo Velasquez and her son-in-law Eusebio Moralez. She is survived by her three sons, Andrew Ybarra and his wife, Yolanda of Muleshoe, Texas, James Ybarra and his wife, Romelia of Plainview, Texas, and John Ybarra and his wife, Lora of Lubbock, Texas; five daughters, Margie Alarcon and her husband Martin of Muleshoe, Texas, Esther Ybarra of Dallas, Texas and Virginia Moralez and Delia Ybarra of Lubbock, Texas, and Mary Ann Abercrombie and her husband Paul of Lubbock, Texas; one sister Josephina Jimenez of Lubbock, Texas and four sister-in-laws, Belen Velasquez of Lubbock, Texas. Concepcion Garcia, Los Fresnos, Tx, Soila Salinas, Clarita Ybarra from Lubbock, Texas. Grandma Esther is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 18 great grand-children and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
