Shirley Ann Vaughan (O'Hair)
Shirley Ann (O’Hair) Vaughan finished her work on earth for the Lord on June 30, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas, that He began with her on February 16, 1936. Shirley had recently moved to Lubbock, but lived many years in the Muleshoe, Lazbuddie, Earth and Farwell communities.
Born to Robert and Juanita O’Hair in Quanah, Texas, Shirley was the oldest of five children. She graduated high school in Earth, Texas before heading off to Abilene Christian University.
Marrying LaVerne Vaughan August 22, 1957, they laughed many times at “LaVerne & Shirley” jokes. Shirley was a loving and good wife, a great mother, a Bible class teacher, a card-sender and enjoyed visiting with people. She worked many years as an articulate bookkeeper for the businesses she and LaVerne operated. Shirley was a life-long student of health and nutritional awareness.
Together, with LaVerne, they were the proud parents of their four surviving children: Eric and his wife, Kaye of Farwell, Texas and daughters, Kasi, Kelly and Ali; Byron and his wife, Diana of Maidens, Virginia and children, Heather and her husband, Jessee, Rhett, Vanessa, Tiffany, Terra and Trevin; Elaine Stancell and her husband, Steve of Muleshoe, Texas and children, Stephanie and her husband, Donovan, Austin and his wife, Kelsie, Adam and Carson; Devin and his wife, Amanda of Lazbuddie, Texas. Shirley had two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Eli. In addition to her children and their families, Shirley is survived by her siblings: Betty Waddell and her husband, Doyce of Lubbock, Texas, and their family; Robert Dwain O’Hair of Dimmitt, Texas; Anita Sharon Stevens and her husband, Richard of Pflugerville, Texas and their family; Perry Don O’Hair and his wife, Lesa of Wilburton, Oklahoma and their family; and sister-in-law, Joye (Vaughan) Breedlove. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne; her parents; Glenn and Ruey (Vaughan) McKinney, Margaret McKinney, Loyd and Dorothy Vaughan, Jane Vaughan and John (Jr.) Breedlove.
The family suggests memorials be sent in Shirley’s honor to Key to the Kingdom, PO Box 370, Hutchinson, Kansas, 67504 or Texas Boys Ranch, PO Box 5665, Lubbock, Texas, 79408.
