She was able to return to work in the fall of 1980, but in more familiar surroundings. She took a teaching position at Morton ISD as their new kindergarten teacher. For the next 35 years, Sandra devoted herself to her students and her work. During her teaching career, she also helped teach other classes in elementary reading, UIL and Summer School. Many young lives have been greatly affected by “Miss Gandy” over the years, as their teacher and friend. She was an active member of the former Emlea Smith Junior Study Club, Classroom Teachers Association and the First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister, Linda Sue Gandy.

Sandra is survived by her brother, Curtis and his wife, Susan of Morton, Texas; her two nephews, Samuel Gandy of Levelland, Texas and Benjamin Gandy and his wife, Shannon of Weston, Colorado; and her niece, Katherine Gandy and her fiancée, Ray Hubbard of Morton, Texas.
